Sultan Abdul Samad Building & Colonial Garden

Venue for Dinner & Cultural Show on the 16th of October 2018

Named after the 4th Sultan of Selangor – Sultan Abdul Samad Ibni Raja Abdullah, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building was designed by the British architect A.C. Norman. Stretching 400 feet along Jalan Raja (Raja Road), construction of the building was completed in 1897. It was originally used to house the State Secretariat offices of Selangor.

Gleaming copper domes and a 40-metre high clock tower accentuate this unique Moorish-styled building. This historic building, having stood for over 100 years has witnessed not only the growth and development of the city but many historical events that have taken place on the Merdeka Square in front of it. Among them was the declaration of independence of then Malaya from British rule on the 31st of August 1957. And on the 1st of January 1982, the clock tower became the venue for another historic event when time for Peninsula Malaysia, East Malaysia and Singapore were standardized to GMT+8.
